Head to Head with the Seahawks!
Every September, the Sunday after Labor Day, we celebrate Back Home Sunday. The choir is back, Sunday School fires up, I’m in the pulpit launching a new sermon series and our Ministry Fair fills the Gathering Place, putting on display all of the programs and offerings for this coming year. It is a very exciting morning.
This year is no different…with an added twist. We are kicking off our year-long journey through “The Story,” an abridged, chronological version of the Bible. Every single group and program in the church will be focused on these same, epic passages of scripture as we make our way from Genesis to Revelation.
Alas, as it turns out, we aren’t the only ones kicking things off on September 13. Turns out that a certain football team will be doing the same thing with their kickoff at 10:00am.
Do I wish we weren’t up against the Seahawks? Sure. But we’re going for it! If you are among the legions who are excited to see the Hawks make it a three-peat this year—but who also love to be with your church family on Sunday mornings—could I encourage you to set your DVR and come to the early service? After all, DVR is the best way to watch anything anyhow! And I promise, there will be no scores shared from up front!
And for those who might come at 9:00am and dash home, you can take in the Ministry Fair starting at 8:30! So set the DVR, come a little early to check out the Gathering Place, join us for worship as we launch our new year in The Story, and then head home to enjoy a commercial-free game… with a perfectly clear conscience!
By the way, beginning next week, we will have another option for Seahawks fans—and anyone else for whom Sundays just don’t work—Saturday Night at Chapel Hill at 6:30pm in the Memorial Chapel.
It is a very exciting time in our church and hope you are as ready to dive in as I am! See you Sunday.
