Insult to Injury

Insult to Injury

Last weekend we celebrated World Communion in what many of you have shared was a moving and innovative way: we prayed through the Lord’s Prayer, focusing each petition on one of our Mission Partners. You will recall Joseph Bataille who shared via video, our representative with partner World Relief in Haiti. As I shared, Haiti—the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere—is still reeling from a devastating earthquake in 2010.

In recent days, Hurricane Matthew has swept through that part of the world, one of the strongest storm fronts to hit Haiti in many years.  Reports are still coming in from the remote region of Pichon, but we know that there have been some deaths, many injuries and, of course, thousands who have been displaced by the flooding.

Our partnership with World Relief in Haiti is relatively new.  We are excited about their approach because they work through local churches to identify the greatest needs and insure that our giving and serving provides the greatest benefit… and does so in the name of Christ!  Obviously, with the devastation of Matthew, our brothers and sisters in that region will have even greater needs to meet.  If you would like to contribute directly to the relief efforts, click HERE to make your gift or designate “Haiti Hurricane” on any additional offering through the church. As a church, we have committed $5,000 from our Missions Disaster Relief fund.

And, as we prayed last Sunday, let us continue to pray for our Haitian Christian family, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
