And the envelope, please…
As a kid, our family opened Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. So perhaps I can blame my parents—I am a victim—for not being very good at waiting for surprises. Frankly, I’m not very good at keeping that kind of secret, either. I love to spread good news! Which is why I told Dawn Davis in our Finance Department not to give me the final numbers on our Beyond These Walls pledges. What I do know is that there is a big pile of cards sitting on her desk and the whole Finance Team seems pretty darned chipper.
But I want to share in the surprise with you! So, next Saturday night, June 17, at 6:30 in the Sanctuary, we will celebrate our first of two Bluegrass/Father’s Day services (the second is Sunday, June 18, at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary, which is our only service that day) and, at the appropriate moment, I will be given an envelope which I will open to discover the grand total of the pledges. If you are there Saturday night—and I invite you to come (if you can keep a secret!)—we will share in that moment of surprise together! RSVP here so we can have enough food to share!
If you were among the few who didn’t make a pledge-pilgrimage up to the altar last weekend, it’s not too late to add your commitment to those of hundreds of your brothers and sisters. You may do so this weekend or right HERE, online. Who knows; maybe your gift will be the one that pushes us over the top!
Meanwhile, we have a terrific weekend of worship planned for tonight and tomorrow. Communion, recognition of graduates, and an opportunity to listen as Jesus answers the question, “What is the greatest commandment?” Plus, if you are nine-o’clockers, our choir will conclude the program year with an abundance of beautiful anthems…something not to be missed.
It is a very, very exciting time in the life of this church. You really don’t want to miss a bit of it!
See you in church….and bring a friend!
Pastor Mark
P.S. If you are not yet a member of Chapel Hill, please join us for our First Step membership class Sunday, June 11, right after the second service! We’ll even pick up lunch!
