The Doubtful
Mark 9:14-29
Faith plays a role in healing
Head
Who is the “faithless generation” in this story? Who is Jesus speaking to?
Why is prayer important in this story? What is the connection between faith and prayer?
“If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us”. What does this passage teach about God’s ability to heal? What about God’s compassion on those who cry out for healing?
Heart
How do you relate to this story? Are you the leader frustrated with the lack of faith of others? Are you the one suffering and in need of healing? Are you the family member observing the suffering of others? Are you the faithless one, trusting and asking for more faith?
Have you ever experienced doubt when asking for healing? Has that doubt even stopped you from asking perhaps? Share with your group how you have wrestled with this. What lessons has God taught you personally as you have lived this out?
What difference have faith and prayer made in the healing process, according to your experience?
Hands
Pray together “I believe; help my unbelief!”
When the disciples fail to see healing, Jesus’ commission was to pray more. What circumstances are members of your LifeGroup experiencing that need healing and restoration? How can your group practically develop the practice of prayer for one another’s needs?
Is there anything that needs to change in the usual habits and practices of your group when it comes to your reliance on Jesus, connection to him in prayer, and trust in his ability to come through when asking for healing? Is it typical for you and your group to turn to prayer first for example? Is prayer only a last resort?
