Rosemary Lukens
NOMINEE FOR ELDER ON SESSION
I was raised on Orcas Island (somewhere in the very remote past–1945!). Fast-forward to May 2024: I am currently finishing six years on the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) National Leadership Team. The past three years I have moved through executive leadership roles as Moderator Elect, Moderator, and currently Chair of National Leadership Team. I complete my term at General Assembly in June. Due to the significant workload, I resigned from the Chapel Hill Session last year, but I have been asked to serve a one-year term to fill a vacancy. I believe that this is one of the pieces of my “next steps” with Jesus following the National Leadership Team.
My late husband, Torrey Wickman, and I came to Chapel Hill 32 years ago. Following Torrey’s death, I met and married David Lukens. We just celebrated 20 years of marriage. Together we have three children and seven grandchildren (ages 16-29, as well as our bonus grandchildren, Rory, Sabrina, and Merrick Hutchins (4½, 3 and 1½) and Evelyn and Ezra White (10, almost 11; and 8, almost 9).
I look forward to serving the Lord at Chapel Hill in the work of fulfilling Jesus’ Great Commission to go, teach and baptize…bringing all glory and honor to God.
Heather Goffrier
NOMINEE FOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE (not an Elder on Session)
After many years of moving back and forth across the U.S. with my husband Adam’s job as a Navy pilot, our family settled here in Gig Harbor in June of 2022 when Adam retired. We’ve been married almost 15 years, have three beautiful daughters, and we’re excited to plant roots here in this wonderful town.
Prior to military life and just out of college, I worked for two years as an intern with Athletes in Action on the University of Washington campus, where I discipled athletes and led Bible studies for a few teams. Later, I taught elementary PE and coached basketball at the high school and college (assistant) levels.
Since getting married, I’ve had many various jobs throughout our military duty stations, but one consistent activity was that we always plugged into a local church. We joined small groups and I got involved in womens’ Bible studies to grow in my faith. God led us to Chapel Hill when we were in the process of moving here, and we have jumped into the community life of the church and love it!
I worked for almost a year as the social media specialist at Chapel Hill and then transitioned home when Adam’s new work travel schedule got intense. We’re involved with our community group and we volunteer as greeters on a regular basis. Additionally, I’ve led the welcome team for Vacation Bible School and helped with one-off projects such as packing blessing bags for the Tacoma Street ministries. I also volunteer quite a bit with our kids’ school.
My hope and prayer is that I can shine Jesus’ light through whatever I’m doing, whether through coaching basketball, building relationships with neighbors, volunteering at church, or talking with a stranger in the grocery store. I love the heart of this church to reach the lost and stretch out hands to those in need, and I look forward to helping nominate people who want to lead our church in reaching our community with the love of Christ.
