Two Great Reasons!
Cyndi and I had the privilege of attending the Masters Golf Tournament last week. It was a true bucket-list experience. Even if you aren’t a golfer, you know of the Masters. This was one of those times when the experience exceeded the expectation. And…there are things I learned at Augusta that translate well back into our life as a church. I’m eager to share those things with you…and will soon.
There are all kinds of reasons I want people to worship in person on Sunday mornings. This Sunday, however, there are two especially great reasons.
First, we have an opportunity to hear from one of the leading voices in our denomination. Dr. David Swanson is the Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Orlando, Florida. More significantly to me, David is one of my longest and dearest pastoral friends. We fought together in the PC(USA) trenches and, together, have enjoyed the blessing of being part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He is one of the best preachers in our denomination, an incredible leader…and we get to hear him this Sunday!
Months back, David said to me, “I’m going to ask you for something I’ve never asked before: could I preach at your church?” Of course, I was thrilled at the offer, and I know you will be blessed as he speaks to us about the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. To be able to hear Dr. Swanson in our Sanctuary…that’s reason enough to come in person this Sunday!
But here’s the second: the Senior Pastor Search Committee has an update for us. And you will not want to hear this news secondhand!
See? Two great reasons to be in church in person this Sunday. I look forward to being with you!
