How to Use NFC Tags
Chapel Hill is now using NFC (Near Field Communication) tags in the Sanctuary so you can access the Guide. The tags are on the backs of the pews. Tapping an NFC tag with your Android or Apple smartphone is a simple process. Here’s how you can do it for both platforms:
For Android Smartphones
- Check if NFC is enabled:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Connected devices or Connections (varies by manufacturer).
- Look for NFC or Contactless payments and ensure it is turned on.
- Locate the NFC reader area:
- On most Android phones, the NFC antenna is located on the back, near the center or top.
- Tap the NFC tag:
- Hold the back of your phone close to the NFC tag (usually within 1–2 inches).
- Your phone should automatically recognize the tag, and a notification or action will appear.
- Interact with the tag:
- Depending on the tag’s programming, your phone might open a website, display a message, or perform another action.
For Apple iPhones
iPhone XS and Newer:
- No need to enable NFC:
- NFC is always enabled on these models.
- Tap the NFC tag:
- Hold the top of your iPhone close to the NFC tag.
- A notification will pop up automatically when the tag is read.
- Interact with the tag:
- Tap the notification to complete the associated action.
iPhone 7 to iPhone X:
- Enable NFC manually (if needed):
- Download a third-party app like NFC Tools from the App Store if NFC doesn’t trigger automatically.
- Tap the NFC tag:
- Use the app to scan the tag, following the app’s instructions.
