Matthew 28
What did I learn about Jesus?
- Jesus raised from the dead!
- Jesus appeared to his friends, assured them of his authority, and gave them a final command to “make disciples of all nations” (verse 19).
What did I learn about disciple-making?
- Disciple-making was Jesus’ final instruction to his disciples.
- Following Jesus means following the risen Son of God.
Extended thoughts and observations from Pastor Mark:
Good morning fellow disciples:
I cannot leave Matthew 28 without this comment: The Great Commission (to go and make disciples of all nations) has been increasingly the focus of my ministry and prayer/thought life. Of all the things Jesus could have said as his parting shot, he chooses to send the disciples out to find, befriend, teach and mentor other people to be disciples, too. And notice at the core of that is the command, “teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you.” Discipleship of Jesus is NOT just being saved; it is ALSO obeying his commands (by the power of his Spirit)… i.e., living like him. This obviously means that we must KNOW what his commands are… which is why we are doing this 90 Day Challenge.
The question to ask yourself… and that we will be asking for the years to come…is, “Am I obeying the call of Jesus to make other disciples?” Can you name one person that you are intentionally developing a relationship with that has, as PART of that relationship, a mentoring component in faith?
