Bluegrass and Surveys
Father’s Day is one of my favorite Sundays at Chapel Hill, because this is our traditional bluegrass celebration. This will be one of those mornings when we have a little more music and a little less talking… including from your preacher. Combine great music, the opportunity to wear jeans, boots and flannel shirts, and a little less chit chat … and we think it will be an enticement for every dad to start off “his” day at church. To top it off, we will also be hearing one of the most heart-touching testimonies from a dad about his son, a health crisis, a basketball, and a life-changing moment courtesy of our Upward Basketball program.
It will be a very different and very fun Sunday. And if you fall in the category of the habitually late, you might want to set your clock ahead by 30 minutes or whatever it takes to get you to church on time. You won’t want to miss a moment!
Another subject: our all-church survey results are back! As you know, more than 400 of our number completed this survey, and we have been waiting excitedly for the news. I have to tell you, what we heard was a real encouragement. According to the summary, you reported back 88% satisfaction with your church and Chapel Hill ranks in the top 25th percentile nationally for spiritual vitality. We are still sorting through the data, but I thought you would be encouraged, too, to hear that at least 400 of our number feel like we are living into our mission of “Working together to present everyone mature in Christ.”
So, I’ll see you Sunday in my jeans and boots, finger picks in place, guitar around my neck. It will be great!

P.S. Every summer our Children’s Department works hard to continue to provide the finest of Christian education to our kids even while giving our teachers a well-deserved respite. Frankly, we are in desperate need of some more summer volunteers. If you are willing even to teach one Sunday, we will take it! You have no idea how easy, how fun and how rewarding our leadership team makes this experience. You promised, when we baptized these kids, to do everything necessary to help them grow in their faith. Well…this is necessary. Will you step up to it? E mail Deb Robertson if you are interested!
