Happy Boxing Day!
Happy Boxing Day, everyone. I know… we don’t celebrate that very-English holiday, but it seems appropriate, particularly since we have our very own English folk on staff. Historically in England, December 26 was devoted to the servants and workers who made Christmas delightful for their employers and others. In other words, everyone who worked hard to make Christmas possible got to celebrate their Christmas on the next day, December 26… often by receiving gifts in boxes. Hence, Boxing Day.
It is certainly the case that many, many of our team worked hard to help you all celebrate Christmas. Ane Weber and her amazing drama ministry provided an inspiring and delightful Christmas program on Sunday. And scores of workers, musicians, pastoral-types and volunteers gave up some or all of their Christmas Eve as a gift to the Lord and to the thousands who joined us that night for candles and Silent Night… and hopefully, much more. To all of you servants of Christ, may this Boxing Day be a moment of deep contentment, satisfaction and rest, knowing that you offered a gift of yourself in service to Jesus and those whom He came to love and save.
But another weekend is upon us! And yes, we will be worshiping together Saturday night at 6:30, as always, and Sunday at our regular times. We’re not quite done Advent-ing! “Come and worship, come and worship Christ the newborn king!”
A couple other reminders. First, if you have not yet had the opportunity to join Cyndi and me and the many others in a year-end gift to Chapel Hill, please do so. Here’s a link to the letter that explains and invites you to participate in this. And don’t forget our annual Renewal of Baptismal Vows services next weekend, January 2 and 3. This is a wonderful last-glance backward at what God did in 2015 and a chance to renew our own commitment to Jesus for the coming year. Please join us!
