Christmas Memories
Christmas begins in July for the Dickersons. Choir directors start music research, purchasing and rehearsing long before the average person even thinks about the holiday (unless you are like my grandmother who had her shopping finished by March!). The tree, on the other hand, doesn’t make an appearance until Thanksgiving weekend. This year, our sixteen-year-old son wanted a real tree, so after some hesitation I instructed him and his dad to pick one up at a local tree farm.
What a surprise to see them walk in with the most beautiful flocked tree I’ve ever seen! We began decorating with ornaments made by our children, and given by students, friends and family. It’s a walk down memory lane with each one we pick up and place on the tree.
Music brings back memories too, especially beautiful Christmas carols. When you stop to think about it, they transcend any preferred style of worship. The Chapel Hill concerts, which feature a fabulous bell choir, full orchestra and a multi-generational, sixty-voice choir will present an eclectic selection of seasonal tunes all about Jesus! Just like the saying goes, “Jesus is the reason for the season!”
There’s nothing else like this presented anywhere on the Peninsula. Bring the family, and hear Christmas carols you have longed to hear both new and old. You will experience traditional carols arranged in all styles, to name a few:The First Noel,The Little Drummer Boy, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Mary Did You Know (Pentatonix version), a brass arrangement of Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 (made popular by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra). And you won’t want to miss Come See What’s Happenin’ in the Barn!
Everyone loves Christmas music, so this is your opportunity to invite a neighbor or friend with whom you’ve been wanting to share about Jesus. Saturday, December 10, 7:00pm and Sunday, December 11, 1:30pm.
Whatever demographic you belong to—young, medium or extra medium—you won’t be disappointed.
